My wife and I went to Skomer at the end of June to photograph Puffins. Having been told that we need to be there early we decided to travel over the night before and camp. Big mistake, those of you that know me will know about my bad back, I could not get comfortable in the tent so I gave up and sat in the car. After a night of no sleep, we got up at 4.30(am) and walked down to the booking office at Martins Haven. I’m very glad we did, by 6.30 there were 50 other people and by 7.30 there were 200+. As they only take 250 over to the island each day you definitely need to get there early, unfortunately you can’t pre book! Anyway when we got to the island the access was not too bad for me, once you get up the steps! Alison and I found a nice quiet spot away from the crowds which had some very obliging Puffins. Had an absolutely fantastic day, the weather was perfect and I got all the shots I wanted and more.
