JACKS REVIEW
NIKON COOLPIX S3500
‘Please note, these reviews are my opinion on the cameras that I stock and sell, the reviews are not meant to be full blown technical reviews and I do not post any test images on line, they are designed to give you some assistance (in layman’s terms, as requested by my customers) when choosing a camera that is right for you. I try to keep them as simple and short as possible.
These reviews are the result of requests from my customers.’
THANKS JACK
Nikons brand new model has arrived and I have been taking my usual test shots with it.
Build quality is very good, it actually feels ‘smoother’ than the S3300 its predecessor, the control buttons feel a little bit tighter, in a good way. Other than that, the layout is almost the same. They have kept the video quick start button on the back of the camera, which is good. The lens is now a 7x optical zoom, not massive, but then this model is not meant to be. The LCD screen is the same size, but to me it appeared to be a bit sharper and clearer to see.
The main upgrade on this model is the CCD image sensor, which is 20MP! The test shots it produced for me are very sharp and detailed, but not too much.
I printed some A4 prints and can see it easily printing detailed A3 prints as well. I took my shots on an overcast day, but it coped very well, delivering some nicely exposed images. The colour was very good, detail excellent. My only small gripe was that they looked very slightly underexposed for my liking. However, this was not a massive problem. I took the shots on fully automatic and the camera does have a bracketing option so any exposure issue in difficult lighting conditions can be overcome.
Image stabilization appeared to work well during my test and there was no delay between pressing the shutter and image capture. Also took some very good close up images (macro).
Focusing was very quick and accurate.
The camera has the normal shooting modes (scene) x18 that you would expect to find on the class, including, Auto scene mode, landscape, beach, snow, B&W etc.
If you are looking for a good general-purpose, reliable compact camera that will fit into your pocket, then this would be a very good option. And its comes with a Nikon 2 year warranty.
