Little Bittern, Bitterns, Red Deer Calf, Red Deer Stags in 'velvet' Great Spotted Woodpeckers & Whitethroat July 2014 Wow!!! What an amazing couple of days 'out' I had last week, both very early starts, woke up at silly o’clock (3.30 am) well actually left the house at 4.30 am when my body bought up with my enthusiasm!
First morning spent on Exmoor, where I found these 3
stunning Red Deer Stags in full 'velvet' the images taken at 5.30 am, then I
watched a beautiful Red Kite for about 20mins, next I drove round another
corner and found an adult Great spotted woodpecker being mobbed by 3 very
mature juveniles, that were eventually rewarded with food. They were so
engrossed in what they were doing that they completely ignored my presents. Then
I noticed this Exmoor Pony foal with a ‘perm’ got wet and gone curly. The icing on the cake for me was finding this
gorgeous Red Deer calf, which was still a bit 'wobbly' on its legs. Mum was
with it though so I kept my distance, managed to get some photos, but most
importantly did not disturb them. I often see Red Deer calf’s at this time of
year that appear to be alone, but they never are mum is never far away. Simply
stunning weather, terrific wildlife, what a brilliant place Exmoor is!
Second morning, another ridiculously early start, but I was
rewarded with these great views of a Little Bittern and its bigger cousin the
Great Bittern - HAPPY DAYS!
Hope you like the images
